Volunteer Position: Technical Coordinator

Silhouette Stages, Howard Count's premier community theater organization, is looking for a Technical Coordinator (TC) with hands-on experience for coordinating all technical elements of theatrical productions, including sets, lighting, sound, props, and backstage operations.  The TC will work closely with Slayton House technical lead, directors, designers, and volunteers, to ensure that productions are executed safely, creatively, and efficiently, while supporting the collaborative spirit and mission of Silhouette Stages community theater.

Position Summary:
Silhouette Stages, Howard Count's premier community theater organization, is looking for a Technical Coordinator (TC) with hands-on experience for coordinating all technical elements of theatrical productions, including sets, lighting, sound, props, and backstage operations.  The TC will work closely with Slayton House technical lead, directors, designers, and volunteers, to ensure that productions are executed safely, creatively, and efficiently, while supporting the collaborative spirit and mission of Silhouette Stages community theater.

Key Responsibilities:
Technical Planning & Execution:

Coordinate with Slayton House technical director on requirements and needs for each Silhouette Stages production 
Collaborate with each shows production team to determine the technical needs of each show.
If needed interpret scenic and lighting designs to plan and oversee the installation of technical systems.
Attend production meetings and rehearsals as needed to support technical integration.

Crew Coordination:

Recruit, train, volunteer crews and technical assistants.

Assign tasks and ensure that volunteers are working safely and effectively.

Provide mentorship and basic technical training to community members with varying levels of experience.

Facilities and Equipment:

Maintain and organize technical equipment, and technical spaces.

Ensure all equipment is in safe working order and make necessary repairs or upgrades.

Work within budget constraints to procure new technical equipment.

​

Safety and Compliance:

Implement and enforce safety protocols in all technical areas.

Ensure proper use of tools, ladders, rigging, and electrical systems by all crew members.

​

Performance Support:

Oversee or assist with load-ins, technical rehearsals, show runs, and strike.

Provide backstage or booth support during performances, as needed.

​

Qualifications:
Experience in technical theater (lighting, set construction, sound) – formal training is helpful but not required.

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and basic stage layouts.

Comfort working with power tools, ladders, and standard theatrical equipment.

Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication and ability to work with volunteers of diverse skill levels.

Passion for the arts and commitment to community engagement.

Time Commitment & Compensation:
This is a volunteer position, with a time commitment that varies by production schedule.
Availability is typically required during production periods but can be delegated to others working lights, sound, or other technical elements of a production.
